Nolan was scheduled for open-heart surgery before he’d even taken his first breath, and was recovering from that surgery by the time he was a week old. His non-functioning left ventricle and multiple holes in his heart required four more open-heart surgeries and five closed-heart procedures, making this 6-year-old a veteran at his children’s hospital. CMN Hospitals donations support the hybrid catheterization lab where Nolan has surgery. This specialized room offers doctors the flexibility to begin with a closed-heart procedure and shift to open-heart surgery if needed. In situations where a transition like this becomes necessary, the medical team saves precious time that would otherwise be spent transferring a child like Nolan to an operating room.
